Gen.35:1-15
Then God said to Jacob, ÒArise, go up to < ?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.Ó Bethel means a place of worship. When God calls you to rise and go to a place of worship is because he wants to deliver you from all that is chasing you. You have remained long enough under consistent chasing, fear, harassment, disturbances that were caused by virtue of ignorance or disobedience. It is time to move with your household to Bethel for dwelling. The way to Bethel demands that you Òput away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments (Gen.35:2). Foreign gods are idols (not necessarily an image but could be thoughts or desires that are not of God); Purify yourselves (clean yourselves by asking God to wash you from head to toe; inside to outside) change of garments (put on robe of righteousness). When you meet all of these requests, all that has been pursuing you will be quenched. Jacob and his household did exactly in that journey. Gen.35:5 and they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not purse the sons of Jacob. Will you rise? Ask God for a divine intervention for you to rise; act in obedience knocking off all that needs to be knocked off. Have a safe journey.
