Acts 5:1-11
Have you been getting away with lying and deceiving for so long that it has no bounds where and when you lie? Lying and deceiving is a terrible and silent disease. As much as it reigns outside the church, so it is rampant inside the church. Acts 5:1-2, ÒBut a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession. And he kept back part of the proceeds, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part and laid it at the apostlesÕ feet.Ó There was no indication that Ananias and Sapphira had to sell their possession, and it can be assumed that it was a voluntary move. So why would they lie? Are you a believer that will lie, fake, or deceive to get attention or impress fellow believers? All conduct is accountable before God that sees both inside and outside of your being. Peter knew they were faking, lying, and deceiving. Acts 5:4,ÒBut Peter said, ÔAnanias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself?ÕÓ What is worth doing for the Lord is worth doing well. Ananias and his wife both could have had good intentions were it not for lying that has become a garment in their life, and there is no where at which they cannot lie. Acts 5:5, ÒThen Ananias hearing these words fell down and breathed his last. So great fear came upon all those who heard these things.Ó Just has lying took the life of Ananias, so it took the life of Sapphira. Lying, deceiving, and faking can go unnoticed for years, but it will only take just one day–just one day–for the truth to expose you.
