FAITH CAPSULE: To be humble is a priority to live life for God.
Philippians 2
God gives grace to the humble.
Pride closes the door to spiritual growth, but humility opens the door to experiencing more of the grace of God.
Humility before God is to become one with patience, peace, and gentleness.
The fruit of the Spirit grows in the soil of humility. Humility is the key to spiritual growth.
Paul identifies the character of humility, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” (Philippians 2:3)
Humility is also: meekness, servility, unpretentiousness, submissiveness, self-abnegation, humbleness, and compassion.
Humility means letting God take charge of your life.
A humble person is not proud and does not believe that better than other people.
Humility before God will confess sins to the Lord, give up burdening, and be willing to leave it at the cross.
The disciples of Jesus asked: “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” Jesus called a little child to come to Him and chided them, saying: “Whosoever … shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:1, 4).
The opposite of humbleness in character is pride and arrogance.
Know humility, identify the opposite of humility and not let it be your character.
Humility is the key to being free from pride or arrogance.
Proverbs 22:4 records what the word of God says about humility: “By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.”
BE HUMBLE BEFORE GOD THAT SEES ALL
With humility is the ability to obey the word of God.
Life is a journey.
In your life journey, humility will declare your heart/mind before God.
God wants all to be humble in life, not to miss heaven.
One that is humble will be obedient to the word of God.
What is your heart/mind like before God?
Are you an acclaimed believer of God or an unbelieving believer?
As an acclaimed believer, what kind of heart/mind is yours before God?
Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”
The mind of Jesus is the mind of obedience, a total submission to the commands of God with no iota of disobedient as Philippians 2:8 records, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”
The word of Jesus points out that one with the mind of humility, like a little child, will not miss heaven. Matthew 18:2-4 states, “Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”
What stops you from having a humble mind to live obediently by the word of God?
Prayer for today: Ask to become humble and be established as humbled one all the days of your life.
