FAITH CAPSULE: Get understanding and be error free.
Deuteronomy 1:19-40
God’s word is the promise of God for man. Are you moving away from the word of God for your life consciously or consciously? Moving from His promise that is encased in His word will lead to wandering. Often times, complaint is carved out of inconvenience. When complaint has a place rebellion establishes itself and commitment suffers. Does that sound like you? The thing is, who can understand his /her errors? Unfortunately there is no excuse for errors before God. Commitment to the word of God is not conditional it is a must otherwise violating His word becomes the order in man’s life. Violating the word of God is wickedness. Wickedness is evil. Jeremiah identified the wicked as the ones that are planted by God; ones that grow and bear fruit; ones that have the word near in their mouth but far from their mind. (Jeremiah 12:1-2) Does that sound like you? “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?”(Romans 6:1-2)
Are we questioning ourselves to know if we are allowing His word to be our guide? The interesting thing about evil act is that it seems there is no sentence against it. The book of Ecclesiastes 8:11-12 buttressed, “Because the sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil. Though a sinner does evil a hundred times, and his days are prolonged, yet I surely know that it will be well with those who fear God, who fear before Him.” As an acclaimed believer, Can you identify your wicked doings that counts as error against you? The Psalmist must have realized that it is possible to be in error and not realize it. As a result, he prayed in Psalm 19:12-13, “Who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be innocent of great transgression.”
The children of Israel were error-full when they violated God with their complaint at Kardesh Barnea. God spoke to them, “See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to your fathers—to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—to give to them and their descendants after them.” (Deuteronomy 1:8) Despite the promise of God they wanted to investigate the land; they sent men to go and spy the land. (Deuteronomy 1:22) Their action demonstrated doubt and it could be that they wanted to be sure if God knows what He is doing by virtue of His promise. The report from the spy caused them to complain and rebel. The Israelites became error-full and could not get to the Promised Land. Get understanding and be error free.
